Healthcare Expenditures of Urban Poor- A Study of a Slum in Delhi

This book is done in an effort to measure the medical expenditure, both direct and indirect, for various categories of illnesses like short term, long term, hospitalisation and maternity care in one of the Delhi slums and to see its impact on household livelihoods and impoverishment. Different coping strategies that are followed by the households like borrowing, availing loan and selling assets to combat the illness are also studied in brief in this book.

Dr Ankur Aggarwal is Consultant working with CDN programme of UNICEF in India. His research interests include healthcare expenditures, public health and nutrition. In the past, he has earned a MHA degree from TISS, Mumbai. He has worked with various government and international agencies in the areas of public health & nutrition.
